Compatibility calculator — how to calculate yourself (tool coming soon)

8/27/26

What the tool will calculate

  • Panel: Voc STC, Vmp, Imp (from datasheet).
  • Device: MPPT min–max V, max A/port, port count, max solar W.
  • Cold Voc estimate: Voc_STC × 1.10 (refinable with temperature).
  • String options: series/parallel combinations, realistic W estimate.
  • Hazard: cold Voc > max MPPT, Imp > A/port, Vmp drop-out.
Not affiliate, not "top 10". The goal: work out your own hardware, safely.

Paper + calculator for now

1. Write down cold Voc per string.
2. Check: cold Voc < max MPPT, Vmp > min MPPT (at planned temperature).
3. Parallel: Imp sum ≤ A/port × ports.
4. Series: panel count × cold Voc < max.
The calculator automates the rules — but measurement and site (shade) are still yours.

Coming soon

The site will get an interactive compatibility tool — same logic, with a pre-filled device database. Register to be notified when it goes live.

Don't stay on the manufacturer's datasheet alone

Registration brings new articles: realistic numbers, cold Voc, panel choice, calculator updates. No affiliate, no "top 10". No spam — only when there's new content.

Important

This article is for information and brainstorming purposes. It is not electrical, engineering, or legal advice, and it does not replace a qualified professional or local regulations.
Portable power station, extension-cord, and "plug and play" solutions have limits. What we describe here is based on our own experience and general technical considerations — your panel, device, cable, and site may differ. A poorly calculated voltage (especially in cold weather) can cause permanent damage without warranty coverage.
Working on electrical equipment can be life-threatening and is often not a DIY job. If you are unsure, or the work goes beyond extension-cord use (fixed wiring, earthing, RCCB, household grid), stop and hire a professional.
The calculations, examples, and calculators shared here are not guarantees of yield, payback, or safety. Implementation, risk, and consequences are yours.
